Integrated Services over ATM/MAN-Based Personal Communication Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
IEEE 802.6 metropolitan area networks (MANs) provide an efficient architecture for supporting wireless personal communication services (PCSs) over metropolitan areas by interconnecting wireless base stations into personal communication networks (PCNs). They also serve as peripheral gathering networks to transport PCS traffic over a wide area broadband integrated services digital network employing asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), enabling integration of PCNs in different cities into a global PCN. By combining the various access methods and employing a dynamic bandwidth integration scheme, a MAN can function as a powerful distributed switch for integrating different types of local traffic. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the advantages of the integration scheme. To provide ubiquitous PCS, we also propose a simple suffix-dialing method for integrating telephone, fax, paging and email services over the ATM/MAN-based PCNs using a single personal telecommunication number. With this method, the current practice of printing a long list of phone numbers on one’s business card will no longer be necessary.

Integrated Telephone/Fax/Paging/Email Services over ATM/MAN-based Personal Communication Networks
An ATM/MAN-based personal communication network (PCN) architecture is presented which combines the broadcast and distributed advantages of metropolitan area networks (MANs) for handling local traffic, and the high speed switching capability of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) for wide area connectivity. A dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme is employed to integrate different types of traffic ov...

Future Personal Communication Networks (PCN), due to the growing user demand in personal communication services in combination with the ongoing development of broadband wireless air interface access technology, are expected to offer broadband multimedia services using the ATM/B-ISDN as the backbone transport network. This paper proposes a new operational concept for such a mobile ATM network, c...
متن کاملVirtual LAN-WAN for Workgroup Multimedia Application
Workgroup multimedia applications such as videoconference, teleteaching or CSCW demand multipoint service from Telecommunication Networks. This is not just a broadcast service but it is a service where N sites transmit traffic to N sites. This service requires that the network support a large number of workgroups with few (5-20) participants together with low delay, low delay jitter, high throu...

متن کاملRouting in Atm Networks
Various routing methodologies are implemented both in connection-oriented and connectionless networks. From the perspective of ATM networks especially those that address issues of QoS and dynamic networks are important ones. ATM was originally developed as a switching standard for support of broadband integrated services in public, switched telephone network. This makes it natural to consider r...
